Today is the last class of BMY 3102.The class is in Bilik Mesyuarat Fakulti. The class started around 10 am and finished at 12 am.In these class we finish two final chapter and that is Biogeochemical cycles and Aspects in Biotechnology. We also receive information from Dr Wan that our final will be in objective and subjective form. Before this I thought only the chapter being covered by Dr Wan going to be in the final but I am wrong. So I must study smart to get good result in final.

Biogeochemical cycles is about recycling nutrient by microbes. The basic Carbon  cycles in enviroment.

The microbes that involve in carbon fixation usually have carboxysome.
Nitrogen cycles have three major process that are nitrification, denitrification and nitrogen fixation.

Nitrate can directly reduced to ammonia by several bacteria.
  • Geobacter sp.
  • Desulfovibrio sp.
  • Clostridium sp.

Aspects of Biotechnology  in Microbial Ecology.
Microbes in landfills have an important role.Microbe act as methanogens and cellulose digester. When learning this I just realize the important of recycle. When all the bottle is,glass is dumped in one side it is easier for we to select microbe to use as digesters and the microbe nutrient can easily be provided by area.I think we should practice recycling habits at home starting from now so that the garbage become easier to dispose.I wonder how fast these microbes works if the material are separated according to the category and how long it takes if it is not separated?

What I have learn:
  • Photosynthetic bacteria fix the atmospheric carbon dioxide
  • Ammonia is the product of nitrogen fixation
  • Microbes may help in reduce pollutions
