Virtual Microbes 3 Reflective Journal

For Virtual Microbes third year student of UPM combine with final year student of UKM were asked to do case study based on description virus given. We have to record three progress meeting video by using Zoom or Vsee. My friends and I were introduced to our member of UKM through WhatsApp group open by our classmates. For the first meeting, we discuss about virus that should be choose. When doing the video, I do not know that the free Zoom time was started when I start to conduct the meeting I thought the time started when recording the video. I was quite nervous when seeing the warning that said we have only left 10 minutes only. So since there are limited time we decided to continue discussion in whatsapp where majority of us decided to choose Rotavirus. We also divided the question need to answer and put in Coogle. relate Microbial Ecology to other microbiology courses have covered and apply the knowledge in the future

 In previous subject I learn  their characteristics and uses. When I am studying Microbial ecology I get to know more about the place that I learn their characteristics  and uses. I also study lab of microbiology with the knowledge from both course I should be able to know how to find and isolate microbes. Different microbes stay in different places. Different microbes require different way to isolate them. For the future application, I think to solve a problems using microbes, the microbes that will solve the problems need to be find in the problems occur. For example, bacteria that involve in bio remediation usually live and isolated in polluted area since there are able to withstands the pollutants.

Microbes and Us experiences

 When first time I heard about Microbes and Us project I can say it is quite interesting.At the same time I was wonder how was we suppose to do this project since we need to interview expert, do the info graphic and many other things. My group first choose human microbiome. Our chosen topic quite has huge area to be cover as many know human body are full with microbes. Since we have 14 weeks to carry out this task I think that is not possible. What can I say there are mixture of emotions during the 14 weeks. Many of us does not want do the work last minute but due to several reasons unavoidable it seems to be last minute work. Anyways although it is last minute we work hard to get the best yield we can. At the end our documentary title is Vaginal microbiome. Yes, it is still in human microbiome but we decide to be more specific so we can easily find our expert and gain more information. What I have learn

          The first chapter of microbial ecology is The principles of ecology. When learning this chapter, I just realized that ecology is a big subject that has many principles and disciplines. I also learn about strategist microbes used that is r and k. r strategist has high reproductive rates while k strategist is more to adaptation. Another important aspect covered is homeostasis. Autotrophic succession happen when P:R> 1. P stands for photosynthesis, while R is respiration. Autotrophic succession cause accumulation of biomass. When P:R< 1, the situation is known as heterotrophic succession where consumption of organic matter is more than the production.   When studying next topic,Microbial Group and Microbial Nutrition Metabolism it is a  bit repetition on what we have learn before this. Learning Outcomes

    Expected learning outcomes   When knowing I will study Microbial Ecology in this semester, my first thought that come to my mind is about place where microbes live. Since microbes are everywhere I wonder what kind of place going to be covered in the syllabus. Of course, I also wonder what microbes roles in this place. Are there any roles of microbes that I have never know? I also expect that different place will have different type of microbes. Maybe this microbes can be classified based on their unique characteristics or temperature or pH that able to withstands. Lastly, I expect that during the study of microbial ecology is adaptations of microbes in the environment they live.

Awesome Microbe Carnival Before When Dr Wan tell us about Awesome Microbe Carnival at first I thought this even maybe similar with our previous event.Later on when we know that we have to do 3D model I quite shock because  I have never have heard about it before so I was wonder how to do it and it is hard?. Next, we know that this event involve all microbiology student from year 1 to  Final year.The first meeting that all microbiology student attend is about the  job dividing for each years.For second year,third semester we were asked to do structure of prokaryote. Our group have to do about Nucleoid.I wonder how we should present because there are many people different course,different age that will be present during that day. After I feel relieve when I see the 3d model .I have know about a few software that can do the 3d model and how to it based on software that I try.It is quite valuable knowledge that I get.Hope I can do better 3d model next time. We learn about intracellular structures of prokaryotes as third topic. We are divided into few group for going to an organelle for Awesome Microbe Carnival.This involving making 3D poster which I have never been heard before this but as soon Dr Wan show the example it is quite interesting.For our group we got nucleoid. When learning this topic we were also asked to do a presentation about gas vesicles and lipid inclusions as peer teaching.
