Today we have our class at 8 o'clock early than the usual. We learn about External structure of prokaryote. I  a little bit shock when knowing we going to learn about external structure of prokaryote because we just send our mind map about internal structure of prokaryote. Anyway the class carry on and I have fun learning about external structure of prokaryote.
Prokaryotes are a group of organisms that lack of cell nucleus or any other membrane bound organelle. The two domains in prokaryote are bacteria and archaea.
Three basic shapes
  • coccus
Arrangement : diplococci, staphylococci, streptococci, tetrads, sarcinae

Bacillus
Arrangement: diplobacilli and streptobacilli

Spiral
arrangement:vibrio, spirilium and spirochetes
The smallest bacteria is mycoplasma. Vibrio cholera cause cholera which  cause watery diarrhea and vomiting. This bacteria comes from water contaminated by feces of person infected by cholera. This situation usually happen in poor sanitation place and inadequate water treatment. To avoid from cholera from effect us we must only drink boil water.
By the way bacteria also have additional shapes
Unusual :-star-shaped
                -square
               - triangular
Pleomorphic:-within population various shape (especially archae)
Archae change shape based on temperature.

No fixed shape: - cellwall-less:mycoplasma?ureaplasma
It is amazing how this tiny microorganism have many change and some even can change their shape. Before this I only though the bacteria were only spiral and coccus. When I learn about this my thought is although organism in microbial world are small but there are many  variety in this world.

Bacteria and archae have few types of motility. First is tumbles, runs interrupted by periodic, abrupt, random changes in direction. The interruption could come from chemical and antibiotic. Next is swarm: rapid wavelike movement. Prostatitis usually swarm. Prostatitis cause Urinary Tract Infection. I never know tumbles and swarm to move. Previously I think bacteria only move forward and bacteria move when carried by the wind. So when learning this I know that bacteria can move independently.

before the class ended we were asked to make a mind map on the white board about prokaryote. At least every people have to write once. At the beginning everybody very excited to write at the whiteboard until too many people busy writing at the whiteboard. Until we are write same topic twice and we have to erase it back. Most of us still remember the notes because we have just made  the mind map about internal structure and the external structure we have just learn. I feel very happy that I still remember what I read and able to write it at the whiteboard. It show that we have to do something about something we have learn in class such as make a mind map.

What I have learn:
-Prokaryote lack of nucleus
-The smallest bacteria is mycroplasma
-The prokaryotes move by swarm and tumbles
