 Today we have our class at Biotech 2.2.We learn about culturing ad maintaining  microbes.
Aseptic technique-carrying out a procedure under controlled conditions in a manner that will minimize the chance of contamination.
 Sterile hood- all manipulations must be carry out in a sterile cabinet.

Before this I thought before doing cultivation of microbes we just need to wash the apparatus with just distilled water same as other experiments but it is more than that.It is show that a small contaminate can bring big effect to the results of the culture.

Different  types microbes need different type of medium.Before this I thought all types of microbes use the same medium but I was wrong. I wonder how was the recipe different for each type of microbe.Does it has differ form the amount,ingredient or temperature to make the medium?

There are may new apparatus I have know when learning this. Some apparatus are small,I thought that these are not costly but there are some costly.
What I have learn:
-Two basic culture techniques
  • liquid culture
  • culture plate
-Pure culture is a populatio of identical cells originating from a single cell
-Pure culture obtain by working in aseptic environment

          The first chapter of microbial ecology is The principles of ecology. When learning this chapter, I just realized that ecology is a big subject that has many principles and disciplines. I also learn about strategist microbes used that is r and k. r strategist has high reproductive rates while k strategist is more to adaptation. Another important aspect covered is homeostasis. Autotrophic succession happen when P:R> 1. P stands for photosynthesis, while R is respiration. Autotrophic succession cause accumulation of biomass. 26/9/14  Today we have our class at 8 o'clock early than the usual. We learn about External structure of prokaryote. I  a little bit shock when knowing we going to learn about external structure of prokaryote because we just send our mind map about internal structure of prokaryote. Anyway the class carry on and I have fun learning about external structure of prokaryote.   Prokaryotes are a group of organisms that lack of cell nucleus or any other membrane bound organelle. The two domains in prokaryote are bacteria and archaea. Awesome Microbe Carnival Before When Dr Wan tell us about Awesome Microbe Carnival at first I thought this even maybe similar with our previous event.Later on when we know that we have to do 3D model I quite shock because  I have never have heard about it before so I was wonder how to do it and it is hard?. Next, we know that this event involve all microbiology student from year 1 to  Final year.The first meeting that all microbiology student attend is about the  job dividing for each years.For second year,third semester we were asked to do structure of prokaryote. Our group have to do about Nucleoid.I wonder how we should present because there are many people different course,different age that will be present during that day.
